About this activity
Home practice works when it rides on an existing routine and fails when it is a separate task.
How to use it in a session
Send home one card, not twelve. A family given a list will do none of it; a family given the car card will do the car card. Match the routine to the household rather than the target — a family that never eats together will not do the dinner card however good it is. The teach-a-family-member card is the highest-value one, since explaining the sound is the strongest form of knowing it.
What to listen for
Watch what actually gets done rather than what was assigned. A family reporting they did the car one three times is a success; one reporting they did all twelve is usually reporting intention. Notice whether the child can teach the sound, which doubles as an assessment — a child who cannot explain the placement does not yet have explicit control of it.
Carrying it home
That is what this whole board is. The one addition worth making is asking the family to notice the correct productions rather than catching the wrong ones, since correction at home tends to reduce how much a child talks.
Questions
- Is this board in Spanish?
- Yes, the cards and instructions are Spanish, which matters — a home programme has to be in the language the family speaks.
- Is it free?
- Yes, all twelve cards are free to use with no account.
- How much home practice is realistic?
- Less than most plans assume. One routine attached to something the family already does, a few times a week, beats a daily programme abandoned in the second week.
