Find it in the picture: free speech therapy scene games

7 free activities · no sign-up

Each scene is a picture full of things with one target sound: a park for /s/, a kitchen for /k/, a farm for /p/, a classroom for /b/, a bedroom for /m/ and a beach for /sh/. The student finds an item, taps it and says its name. There is also a feelings faces hunt in a classroom for emotion words.

Scene hunts give younger students a reason to keep saying the target: every find is another production, and the search keeps attention on the board. Once single words are easy, have the student say where the item is (“the sock is under the bed”) to move up to phrases.

Questions

Who are scene hunts for?
They are written for preschool to third grade students working on a sound at word level. Older students usually prefer the sentence and conversation boards for the same sound.
How do I take data during a scene hunt?
Mark each item the student names as correct, cued or incorrect. A find without a spoken word does not count as a trial: the point of the hunt is the word, not the tap.
Is there a scene hunt in Spanish?
Yes. “Busca las emociones en el salón de clases” is a Spanish emotions hunt, listed on the Spanish activities page.
