Fourteen Spanish words for rooms and objects around the house: cocina, cama, mesa, ventana, cuchara, puerta, silla, baño, sala, plato, vaso, refrigerador, sofá, almohada. Everyday vocabulary that a Spanish-speaking child encounters dozens of times a day, which makes it the easiest kind to consolidate.
How to use it in a session
Name the object where it is. A word learned against the real thing sticks better than one learned from a card, and every item here exists somewhere in the building. Ask for the word in a phrase — la cuchara está en la mesa — since utterance length is usually a goal alongside the vocabulary. Eight minutes covers the fourteen.
What to listen for
Watch which words are known in English and not in Spanish, or the reverse. A bilingual child frequently has kitchen vocabulary in one language and school vocabulary in the other, and the pattern of what is missing where is more informative than a total count. Notice refrigerador and almohada, the two longest words here, which are often known and not produced.
Carrying it home
This is the one vocabulary set that lives entirely at home. Naming objects in Spanish as they are used — pásame el vaso — supplies more repetitions in a week than a session ever could.
