What's in this activity

  • At school we practice fire drills so everyone knows how to leave the building safely.
  • When the alarm rings, my teacher stops the lesson and tells us it is a drill.
  • The loud sound can feel startling. Many students and adults feel surprised when the alarm rings.
  • My job is to line up quickly, stay with my class, and walk outside to our meeting spot.
  • I can cover my ears if I need to, take two breaths, and look at my teacher for the next step.
  • Outside we wait quietly until an adult says it is safe to go back inside.
  • When the drill is over we return to class. Practicing helps my body know what to do.
