Cueing ladder

Start at the top. Add support one step at a time.

  1. Step 1IndependentShow the card and wait 3 seconds for the student to say it.Log as correct

  3. Step 3Verbal modelSay the word; the student says it right after you.Log as cued
  4. Step 4Placement cueRound your lips into a small 'oo' before you start. Lift the back of your tongue for a quiet /k/, then let go straight into the 'oo': 'queen', not 'kuh-ween'.Log as cued

Adjust it

Easier

Split the cluster with a short pause ('k… ween'), then close the gap until it is one sound.

Harder

Put each word in a short carrier phrase with no /k/ or /w/ in it.

Matching IEP goal

Given picture cards, Student will produce /kw/ in the word-initial position in single words in 8 of 10 opportunities across 3 consecutive sessions, given no more than a visual cue.
