Find the Actions in the Park
Six action words hidden in a park scene: find running, jumping, climbing, sliding, swinging and throwing among trees and benches.
Find 6 things in the picture!
How to run it
Read the list of actions before starting so the student knows what to listen for. Name each action when it is found and ask the child to act it out or describe someone doing it: who is running. An adult should read every label aloud for nonreaders. If the student taps distractors, ask whether tree is something you do or something you see.
Cueing ladder
Start at the top. Add support one step at a time.
- IndependentPresent the item and wait 5 seconds of quiet before helping.Log as correct
- HintStress the part of the sentence that changes, or point to the word ending.Log as cued
- Sentence starterSay the first half of the sentence and let the student finish it.Log as cued
- ModelSay the correct form in the whole sentence; the student repeats it.Log as cued
Adjust it
Give a sentence starter every time, and do fewer cards.
Ask for a new sentence of the student's own with the same form, with no card to lean on.
Matching IEP goal
Given sentence cards, Student will produce the target grammatical form in sentences in 8 of 10 opportunities across 3 consecutive sessions, given no more than an indirect cue.
Send it home through the parent portal →About this activity
A park picture with six action words to find: running, jumping, climbing, sliding, swinging and throwing, hidden among tree, bench, flower, dog and ball. The student taps each action and says the word, which builds verb vocabulary tied to play-ground movement. Scene hunts reward scanning the whole picture, not only the first corner they notice.
What to listen for
Watch whether the student confuses throwing and ball, which sit near each other in meaning. Notice scanning: do they search the whole park or only the bottom row. Listen for verb endings: running versus run. Climbing and sliding are often found last because they share playground equipment in real life.
Carrying it home
At the playground, name actions you see and match them to words from the board. Take a photo and circle actions in a printout. One minute of naming what people are doing builds the same vocabulary without the screen.

Questions
- Who is this for?
- PreK through first grade students learning action verbs and describing what people do in a familiar setting.
- Is it free?
- Yes. It plays free in the browser with no login. An account adds session data, goal scoring and assignment to a student.
- Can the child tap anything in the picture?
- They can tap, but only the six action targets complete the board. Distractors are there to make the student decide whether a word is an action.
